According to Stuart Durant the Devey influence is seen in the neo-vernacular aspects of the building and its relaxed agglomeration of parts.
John Brandon-Jones pointed out although the design was published in 1889, it is likely to have been made some years earlier. It shows Voysey's work at a stage when he was still heavily influenced by Devey.
