Hambledon Hurst,
The Green, Hambledon, Surrey.
For A.H. van Gruisen.
1919
Alterations and additions.
The original house was of
c.1900. The alterations shown in the design at the RIBA consist of a new two-storey wing on the W side with a single large ground-floor room and bedrooms above, remodelled offices on the N side and a block containing a motor house with a
pigeon house above attached to the NE corner.
The
cottage was enlarged in 1919. The
alterations, which doubled the size of the house and
added a garage, were entrusted to the Arts and Crafts
architect C.F.A. Voysey, who had worked for the
family before at Studland and Birkenhead.

The entry in Pevsner's Surrey (with Charles O'Brien, Ian Nairn & Bridget Cherry, 2022) reads:
HAMBLEDON HURST, added to and altered by Voysey in 1919 for A H van Gruisen. Both old and new parts are hip-roofed, the later part roughcast with flat chimney in the centre on corbels. Castellated tower above the porch. The motor house is his too.
